Cyberbullying is when you bully someone by saying mean things, targeting and embarrassing a person, and also threatening someone. This is done over the internet (which is the most common place to be cyberbullied), text messages and email. Cyberbullying is an important topic since bullying isn't as common as before, when people would only bully eachother in person, but now its mostly done over the internet.
The internet is definitely not a safe place so you should watch what kind of information you put up about yourself and the things you say to people.
Some people can cyberbully someone without even realizing it. An example of that could be if you make a silly status on Facebook and somebody comments something rude on it, that is still cyberbullying, but they might not realize it since it's funny to them at the time.
However, others do it on purpose to embarrass or hurt somebody. They can create a fake account on Facebook of that person and post or message that persons friends something mean, which is a very good example of cyberbullying. Although it is funny to the person who does this, they don't realize how much it can hurt the person that they are doing this to. They also don't know whether that person is already having problems on their own such as family troubles or anything, which can lead a kid to do something harmful to themselves, such as suicide, which has happened quite a lot.
In fact, every decade/century, more and more people die from suicide since bullying gets worse and worse. It might be the fact that more electronics keep coming out which makes it way easier for kids to cyberbully somebody since parents wouldn't know about it because over the internet, you are not being supervised.
If this topic, cyberbullying, was commonly known for everyone, maybe the people being mean would stop, since they would realize that what they are doing is very wrong and would think twice before saying something mean or doing something mean to another person. Cyberbullying is a big part of the whole definition of "bullying" so the topic this week that some people are writing about; "Should bullying be a crime", should also relate to this one. If the government were to put a law on this, in my opinion, it would be a very good thing and could in fact save peoples lives. The number of suicides would decrease since people wouldn't be tortured over the internet anymore.
Overall, my opinion on cyberbullying is that it is a terrible thing to do and everyone should stop! Being mean can really cost someone their life. People should always think before they say something because once something happens over the internet, you can't take those words or actions back.
oh and i forgot to site my sources so I will do it right now!

Good job on your post! I liked how you are creative with your picture!
ReplyDeleteI think you can explain more on how you can prevent cyber bullying.
Good job Jessica!
ReplyDeleteI like the fact that you mentioned how it is important to watch what you put on the internet. People don't realize how bad facebook is and how people can look you up and figure out things about you.
I like how you gave examples such as facebook to help explain what you were talking about. It made what you were saying a lot more effective. Also, it was smart to mention the 'bulling as a crime' topic since yes they do relate. I agree with you that cyber bulling should be a crime since it would save lives and also it would teach people to be safer on the internet.
