Should bullying be considered as a crime? Bullying is certainly a big issue now a days at school, at work, pretty much everywhere you are. Bullying not only can hurt you physically, but also mentally and emotionally. People have committed suicide because they are hurt so bad inside, and they think their life is over.
Incase you didn't know, bullying is when someone keeps doing things or saying thing that do hurt another person, as I said before, mentally, physically or emotionally. Some of the things bullies do are calling someone names, excluding another person, threatening them, making someone feel scared, hitting or kicking them, and a lot more sadly.
Recently, there was a poll about bullying and whether it should be considered a crime or not. 65% of people in Canada said that bullying should be a crime, even if there is no physical violence. This means that most people are against bullying. Do I agree with this? Yes and no.
I believe bullying should be a crime because bullying can lead to death, like a crime. Also if people knew that they may be held accountable for bullying, it would make them think twice before they bully someone. People would also feel better about going to school or to work because they know that they won't get teased. They would feel safer and not have to worry about being bullied.
On the other hand, some types of bullying aren't crimes. Such as in elementary school. Kids will say things to each other that are mean, but that doesn't necessarily mean it is a crime.

I asked my mom the same question 'should bullying be a crime?' She said "some types of bullying should be considered a crime but it would be very difficult to charge someone. Bullying is often unseen and with the new addition of cyber bullying, it is sometimes difficult to find out who is the initiator."
In conclusion, bullying should be a crime because even though you may not be physically hurting someone, bullies need to learn that there are consequences for their actions. If they never learn this, bullying will continue and won't stop.
What do you think? Should bullying be a crime?

Your posts are always so interesting to read Monika! It is clear that you are passionate about this topic, because your in your conclusion it was very obvious that you are against bullying.
ReplyDelete"In conclusion, bullying should be a crime because even though you may not be physically hurting someone, bullies need to learn that there are consequences for their actions. If they never learn this, bullying will continue and won't stop."
You also answered the question in your title. This may not seem like a big deal, but before there were many posts that aren't clear on which side they chose. Some posts would end with "what do you think?", or just not end with a conclusion at all.
One thing you can improve on is extending on your argurments.
"I asked my mom the same question 'should bullying be a crime?' She said "some types of bullying should be considered a crime but it would be very difficult to charge someone. Bullying is often unseen and with the new addition of cyber bullying, it is sometimes difficult to find out who is the initiator."
It is creative to use a personal reference to make it more personalized, but personally I wouldn't make that a whole paragraph and point.
You could of explained how it would of been difficult to charge someone for bullying. Some examples could be that the bully was misunderstood, and they weren't bullying, but actually teasing with no harmful intentions. This example and your point on some bullying aren't crimes should merge in with your quote, because you would be explaining in detail part of your quote.
Another thing I also liked how you define bullying after your introduction as either "physical", "emotional", or "mentally".
However, you could of explained what each individual type of bullying, and have an example instead of having all the examples crammed in together. Pretend you audience didn't know how to define physical bullying, you audience would automatically know what it is, if you put bullying behind the bullying type. This is just my personal preference, so if you don't agree on this point, I am perfectly fine with it.
Another popular arguement is that making bullying a crime is not an effective way of dealing with problems.
DeleteFirst of all having the government deal with our problems wouldn harm us in the long run. We have to learn to deal with pain, sadness, anger, dissapointment, and problems because that is a part of life. If the government deals with our problems we wouldn't learn anything, and end up with another situation like this. Some people have a hard time dealing with bullying, but there are consellers who could help you learn how to deal with bullying, which is different from making it a crime. I find this method better in the long run, because at the end we still face our problems.
However you could be more specific in your writing, because in your conclusion you said bullying should be a crime, but never said what kind. Is it physical, cyberbullying, mental, or do you mean all types of bullying. Also if you think about it, since there are different types of bullying, shouldn't there be differnent punishments too? The audience could assume that the penalty would be the same for all types of bullying.
Your post followed the multi-paragraph requiremts of having a introduction, a conclusion, and body paragraphs. You didn't just list out points, but instead made it smooth, like a story. This is really good thing.
Overall your post was really intersting and easy to read, has formal tone, very passionate, and in nice neat paragraphs.
This is a wonderful last post, and I enjoyed commenting your work!
I know my comment is very long, but I am interested in this topic. I hope you find this useful and even respond.
DeleteI wish I knew that there was a word limit per comment, because by the time I was finished typing, and submitted it in, half of it got deleted! So, if you want to make super long comments, then head my warning!
I can't believe there is a limit to words! Kind or strange don't you think?
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the feedback! I like how when you talked about one of my paragraphs how you actually wrote it. That way I didn't have to scroll up to find it.
It may be a long comment but all of it made sense and is really going to help me. Too bad we don't have another post that we get to do.
Thank you! I thought I went overboard with the comments!
DeleteWow! You really wrote a lot this time! I liked how you made lots of paragraphs, but some of them are a bit short. I also liked how you asked real people their opinions as well instead of just researching on the internet. Great job!
